Reconstitution Guide
Reconstitution Guide
A general overview of the standard laboratory technique for reconstituting a lyophilized peptide with a sterile diluent.
For laboratory research use only. This page describes a general bioscience laboratory technique. It is not medical, veterinary or human-administration guidance. Always follow your institution’s standard operating procedures.
Materials typically used
Sterile diluent
Bacteriostatic or sterile water, per your protocol.
Syringe
Appropriately sized sterile syringe.
Alcohol swabs
For sanitizing vial stoppers.
Lyophilized vial
The peptide vial to be reconstituted.
Sanitize
Wipe the vial stopper with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.
Add diluent slowly
Inject the diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder.
Swirl, don’t shake
Gently swirl the vial to encourage dissolution — vigorous shaking can degrade the peptide structure.
Inspect
Confirm the solution is clear with no visible particulate before use.
Label
Label the vial with the date, diluent volume added and resulting concentration.
Store correctly
Follow Peptide Storage & Handling guidance for the reconstituted solution.
Work out your reconstitution concentration
Use the calculator to determine diluent volume or resulting concentration.
